Bienvenue! Nos objectifs sont clairs: améliorer la compréhension du français oral et écrit, et développer la facilité de bien parler et de bien écrire en français. Vous êtes déjà avancés dans vos connaissances fondamentales de la langue, alors ce cours vise à vous fournir les outils nécessaires pour communiquer en français avec confiance et assurance. Votre succès dans ce cours dépendra de votre désir de devenir réellement bilingue. Évidemment, pour mieux apprendre une langue, il faut l’utiliser. On parlera toujours français dans notre salle de classe!!!
Materials Required
A. Class attendance and participation are essential to pass this course. Evaluation will be based on all aspects of student work: tests, projects, homework assignments, individual and group work, quality and frequency of participation, commitment to SPEAK FRENCH AT ALL TIMES IN CLASS, and final exam.
B. Homework must be written clearly and completely or students may be asked to do it again. Assignments must be handed in on time and presentations must be given on due date.
C. Oral speaking marks will be gathered at random and formally with announced times for presentations and skits.
D. This course emphasizes oral communication, reading, and writing skills. Students will explore a variety of themes. Reading will include short stories, articles, poetry and will complement oral and written activities. FIF 1D focusses on these key expectations from the Ministry of Education’s curriculum:
Your final mark will be caluculated based on the Ministry of Education’s Achievement Chart for the course as follows: Knowledge/Understanding: 30%; Thinking/Inquiry: 15%; Communication: 35%; Application: 20%.
E. 70% of the final mark will be based on work completed throughout the course, including tests and quizzes, dialogues, listening, interviews, writing and projects. 30% will be based on the final evaluation in the form of an exam.
F. Daily out-of-class preparation and review will lead to success.
Teacher's Responsibilities
Your teacher assures you that you have the right to individual extra help when needed, provided that you first make an effort to understand and complete the work assigned. Extra help is available at lunch and after school by appointment.
Learning styles and strengths vary. Therefore, a wide variety of assessment strategies will be used. You will always be informed of the nature of the assessment that you will undergo.
Lessons and assignments will be set up with a view to developing creative, self-directed and problem-solving students.
Student's Responsibilities
Bring all required materials to every class. Arrive on time for the class, go immediately to your desk and open your books to the previous day's work.
Show respect and be courteous to all students and teachers. Teachers have the right to teach and students have the right to learn. Participate fully in teacher/student and student/student activities.
If absent or late, catch up immediately on work missed. You are responsible for completing and learning all class material missed while you're away. It is your responsibility to see your teacher or to speak to a classmate to see what you have missed. (See missed work binder for handouts.)
Keep and organize all course material.
Success is based heavily on your self-motivation and diligence. Stay organized and be self-disciplined. Satisfaction will be gained by increasing your knowledge and skills every day.
CAUTION: Cheating is a dishonest activity and will result in dishonour and loss of marks for all involved. Cheating includes the following types of activities:
a) copying another's work
b) claiming work that has been done by someone else as original (plagiarism)
c) bringing unauthorized material into a test or exam
d) passing on one's information to another student when the evaluation
procedure is based on individual effort
